Engraving and Warranties
Does Engraving Void Apple’s Warranty?
We recently asked AppleCare representatives whether using our laser engraving service automatically voids the Apple warranty. The answer, from multiple sources, was the same:
Laser engraving can be performed outside of Apple as long as it does not affect the components of the unit.
Engraving an Apple product does not void the Apple warranty unless the engraving process damages an Apple component.
We’ve always said that our laser engraving will not harm an iPad. Our laser uses very low power, no contact is made with the item being engraved, and only minimal heat is created. We recommend not engraving on the Apple logo, 3G antenna, speaker (iPad 2) or buttons.
In addition to checking with our contacts at Apple, we also checked with representatives at Square Trade, Inc. The Square Trade iPad Warranty is similar to extended AppleCare but with many added benefits. It covers accidental damage, water damage, and normal electrical or mechanical issues.
With any warranty, when the device is serviced it’s likely you will receive a standard iPad back without the custom engraving. If this happens to you, just tell us your warranty replacement story and in exchange we will engrave your replacement device for free.
